THANK YOU Cynthia Allen for organizing a book drive and making our Denver office an official drop off location for Reach out and Read throughout October! We are so proud that we were able to help collect and donate over 100 books to children in need.

Cynthia Allen and her son, Cooper Allen (age 5) love reading daily. Favorite books to read include “Dragons Love Tacos”, “The Hug Machine” and “There’s a Mouse About the House”. Chris Allen (Director at the Verdad office in Denver) and Cynthia started reading to Cooper since birth. “It just became a part of our daily bedtime routine and it has stuck for the past 5 years”. Because of this fun ritual, Cynthia and Cooper decided that collecting books for lower income families and sharing their love of reading would be a great way to connect with their new community in Denver.
“Reach Out and Read Colorado” is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read out loud together. The organization also trains health care providers to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to prescribe books to children at health check ups from 6 months to 5 years of age, with special focus on children growing up in poverty.
“This organization hit a chord with me,” Cynthia says. “Cooper is at the age where he sometimes thinks he can have and want anything he desires, but he has such a giving heart, so we taught him at an early age about people in need and giving to others. “We are in awe of his insight at times!” He will on occasion say he wants to donate his books or toys to kids that need them.” This book drive was a great way to share with families in need.
